Pitch

As a BI specialist at PFA, I primarily worked with ETL in SSIS, initially during a period focused on executing the transition from SAP Data Services to SSIS in a way that provided more stable operations and a more uniform foundation, and later with new development in SSIS. In the tasks I handled, I also supported architects with concrete proposals for data modeling, ensuring that the pipeline, data model, and business needs aligned in practice and not just on paper.

Work in detail

Other parameters: Scope: Full time; Employment form: Permanent; Domain: Primarily customer data and policies, with varying tasks across related areas depending on the sprint scope.

Platform shift from SAP Data Services to SSIS

The first part of the period had a clear focus on moving ETL work from SAP Data Services to SSIS, with the ambition of ending with a foundation that was both more operationally stable and more standardized, so subsequent development could take place on a platform and pattern easier to keep consistent over time.

Stable operations through standardization and automation

A central element involved making shared metadata and batch control a permanent part of the solutions (including start and end dates, batch numbers, and a uniform structure). This ensured that runs, re-runs, and troubleshooting were more predictable, so operations did not depend on each individual package having its own private logic and exceptions.

New development in SSIS within the SAFe reporting train

After the platform shift, the work consisted of new development in SSIS within PFA's pension and insurance domain. Tasks typically centered on customer data and policies, and scope could vary from sprint to sprint. Collaboration was anchored in the reporting train with a fixed group, product owner, and scrum master, while maintaining ongoing contact with necessary individuals across the organization to finalize specific tasks.

Modeling input as part of deliveries

In the tasks I sat with, I also contributed concrete proposals for data modeling to support architects, so development was not just about moving data but also about ensuring that data could be understood, reused, and integrated within the data warehouse model.
