BI Consultant
As a BI Consultant at VPT, I was hired as a data warehouse profile with experience in Teradata and SQL Server, with the expectation that I could participate in deliveries needing classic DWH work (SQL, data modeling, and platform understanding), and be ready to join client projects at short notice once the pipeline translated into actual tasks.
Other framework: Scope: Full time; Employment type: Permanent consultant; employment ended during the probation period as the expected client task did not materialize.
VPT hired me as a permanent BI Consultant with the expectation that I could join client tasks within data warehousing and BI, particularly starting with Teradata and SQL Server, and that my profile could be used to staff a specific opportunity in the pipeline where the client was expected to migrate from Teradata to SQL Server; however, the task never became a reality.
Since I did not manage to be coupled directly to a client project during the period, the time consisted primarily of onboarding and preparation, where the focus was on understanding the technical framework, expectations for delivery format, and how VPT worked in practice, so that I could join a project without a long start-up if the pipeline turned into deliveries.
I managed to receive an initial introduction to Oracle Exadata, which became a concrete learning point during the period, although it was not linked to a full delivery.
As the expected client task was not won, and there was thus no real staffing need, the employment was concluded during the probation period.
VPT was a small consulting firm based in London providing BI and data warehouse-related consulting services to clients, typically staffing tasks with profiles within data platforms, SQL, and data warehouse development. The organization was small (around 10 employees), meaning that collaboration and coordination in practice took place across the entire company. The company no longer exists.
